Driving should be a pleasure, with safety and performance part of the package. The KIA Sportage is an urban run-around and fully fledged off roader styled into one. With design sophistication and elegance, coupled with a rugged, young at heart appeal, the Sportage offers the best of both motoring worlds.
The Sportage is a SUV that handles like a passenger car and parks as easily as one too but when wrangling off road terrain offers the confidence that four wheel drive functionality should.
The KIA Sportage Range is available in 3 derivatives, the 2.0 litre petrol, the 2.7 litre V6 and the 2.0 diesel all fitted with McPherson struts, gas shock absorbers, a stabiliser bar in the rear and ventilated brakes. The interior of the Sportage boasts radio/CD functionality along with an auxiliary jack, USB port and iPod connectivity, along with Automatic temperature / Climate control, power steering, electric windows and central locking.
With safety features that include ESP, TCS and ABS Braking Systems along with six airbags (two front, two side and two curtain) and seatbelts that utilise pre-tensioners and load limiters the Sportage offers safety functionality that is ensured during all types of driving encounters.
The Sportage also utilises an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that determines how much power should be transferred to the rear wheels depending on the wheel speed, throttle position and steering angle. While this is a neat feature for the Sportage to have as a standard setting, there is also an option that allows the driver the option to manually engage permanent 4WD, with a 50:50 split between front and rear wheels that adjusts the distribution ratios as speed increases.
The KIA Sportage offers drivers flexibility to enjoy the luxuries that an urban city slicker expects when motoring on the tarmac as well as the performance, traction and stability needed when encountering an off road adventure, making the Sportage comfortable, safe and still a peak performing 4WD.
